Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and new Episode Mode details

The upcoming fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, developed by Arc System Works, has recently revealed new details about its Episode Mode. Aimed at casual gamers, the mode promises a unique comic-book-style experience. Contrary to earlier reports that there would be no gameplay, recent updates have confirmed that playable battles are indeed part of the mode.

Episode Mode and interactive elements

The Episode Mode in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is designed with casual players in mind, telling its story in an interactive way. The mode includes around 10 hours of content, with 4v4 battles woven into the narrative. The gameplay is inspired by manga, with each scene moving as the story progresses visually, while giving players the chance to actively take part in key moments.

Producer Takeshi Yamanaka has confirmed that the Episode Mode combines a cinematic experience with dynamic gameplay. This lets players experience the story through both interactive battles and narrative elements presented as a moving comic.

The character selection system

So far, three teams of five characters have been revealed and will be available at launch. Team Fighting Avengers, which includes iconic characters Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, and Shuri’s version of Black Panther, highlights the mix of familiarity and fresh ideas the developers are aiming for. Players will also have the freedom to create their own teams in other modes.

The team selection system uses a “Team Generation” feature that automatically creates a team name based on the chosen characters, taking their traits and visual style into account. This adds to player engagement and encourages creativity.

Anticipation and future details

As the August 2026 launch draws closer, excitement within the community continues to grow. Recent rumors suggest that Carnage may be part of a villain team led by Dr. Doom, further fueling fan curiosity. During the marketing campaign, hints were also dropped about alternate costumes and gameplay options meant to expand the game’s variety.

Arc System Works appears to be targeting a broad audience, from hardcore fans to newcomers. The Episode Mode includes glossaries and character biographies, helping players without prior knowledge better understand the Marvel universe.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6, 2026, and is being promoted as an innovative blend of American comics and Japanese manga, something that is also reflected in the characters’ artistic design.
