Kiki Wolfkill leaves Xbox after 28 years

Kiki Wolfkill, one of Xbox’s most experienced developers, has announced that she is leaving Microsoft after an impressive 28-year career. Wolfkill’s last day at the company was April 17, 2026. Her departure comes at a time of major change within Xbox under new CEO Asha Sharma.

Career and contributions to Xbox

Wolfkill began her career at Microsoft in February 1998 as art director at Microsoft Game Studios. During her time there, until 2007, she was responsible for a number of important artistic directions and projects. After her stint at Microsoft Game Studios, she moved to 343 Industries, where she took on the role of executive producer on Halo 4. Her work helped shape not only the Halo franchise, but also the studio’s transformation into a major player in the gaming industry.

Later, in 2015, Wolfkill became studio head of 343 Industries and led the company’s transmedia and entertainment division. This included a role in producing the Halo TV show, which aired on Paramount and ran for two seasons. Wolfkill’s recent responsibilities also included overseeing all film and television projects at Xbox.

Wolfkill’s future and projects

In a post on LinkedIn, Wolfkill described her departure as a “difficult but exciting decision.” She said she was grateful for the opportunities Microsoft had given her, but also excited about the possibilities ahead outside the company. While she did not announce her next steps directly, she said she would share more news soon.

Wolfkill has also contributed to many other media projects, including the development of Amazon’s successful Fallout series, the Minecraft movie, and the upcoming Gears of War adaptation for Netflix. There are also rumors of a Diablo show being developed under her leadership.
