Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era presents early access roadmap

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, the latest addition to the iconic turn-based fantasy strategy series, has won over most players so far, but the game still faces a long early access journey. On April 30, 2026, the game launched on PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.

At launch, it quickly became clear the game was a hit; Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era sold more than 1 million copies in its first month. Those sales figures are even more impressive given that the game was also available on PC Game Pass on launch day.

Early access roadmap

Publisher Hooded Horse and developer Unfrozen Studio have shared an extensive roadmap outlining the game’s future. Players can expect a number of highly requested features that were already planned, such as:

• Teamplay mode (co-op against AI opponents).

• An improved map generator.

• A rebalance of hero skills and epic classes.

• Advanced options for the online matchmaking system.

These additions and adjustments are scheduled to roll out in two stages in the second half of 2026. After those phases, a third phase will follow, focused on the game’s full release.

Phase developments

In this third development phase, Unfrozen aims to deliver an underground map layer, a Thieves' Guild, more neutral high-level creatures, an Ironman mode for the campaign, and further system-wide and specific improvements. Phase four, also known as the 1.0 release, will include the second and third acts of the campaign, as well as a PvE “roguelike” mode, details of which are currently unknown, the ability to share custom maps, and additional Steam achievements.

It seems Unfrozen Studio will be busy over the coming period with this retro-inspired turn-based strategy game. After such a strong start, there’s no reason to rush the development process.

Ubisoft, the rights holder to the HoMM property, remains involved as co-publisher alongside Hooded Horse.
