Fable: delayed until February 2027

The long-awaited reboot of Fable has officially been delayed until February 2027. The news was announced on 29 May 2026 by Xbox, which said the decision was driven by the huge number of major games set to arrive during the 2026 holiday season, including popular titles such as Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Grand Theft Auto 6.

Reasons for the delay

A major factor behind the delay is Xbox’s packed release schedule, with several big titles expected in the same window. Xbox said it was concerned that Fable’s launch could be overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto 6, which is currently scheduled for 19 November 2026. The decision was made to give Fable the “time and attention it deserves,” according to Xbox’s announcement.

Fable was originally due to launch in autumn 2026, but has now been pushed to February 2027. Xbox has also announced that it will give Fable a major showing on 7 June 2026 during its annual Xbox Games Showcase. That will give fans another look at the game, which is being developed by Playground Games, known for its work on the Forza series.

The Fable reboot will be set in the fantasy world of Albion, just like the earlier games in the series. Players can once again expect features such as a morality system that affects how NPCs and the world react to the player’s choices.
