1047 Games announces Titanfall-inspired shooter Empulse

1047 Games, the studio behind the popular game Splitgate, has recently announced its upcoming project Empulse. This new shooter, described as a "Titanfall-inspired movement shooter," is scheduled to launch in early access in 2026. The announcement marks a significant shift in focus for 1047 Games, which is now primarily concentrating on Empulse.

Inspiration and gameplay

In an interview with the media, Ian Proulx, CEO of 1047 Games, spoke about the inspiration behind Empulse. The team looked to some of the best movement shooters, including Titanfall 2 and Black Ops 3. However, they also drew influence from non-shooter games such as SSX Tricky. Proulx describes how Empulse’s gameplay is meant to put players into a "flow state," combining wall-running, grappling, and sliding into a dynamic experience.

A unique feature of Empulse is the use of so-called P.A.I.N.T. Bombs (Plasma Activated Infusion of NanoTech), which offer effects similar to the gel mechanics in Portal 2. These bombs can give players extra speed or boost their jumps, resulting in a highly mobile shooter where players are constantly on the move.

Continuity for Splitgate

Despite the focus on Empulse, 1047 Games remains committed to supporting Splitgate. The recent release of Splitgate: Arena Reloaded in December 2025 shows that the developer still believes in the game’s potential. Proulx explained that community feedback has helped them make important decisions about the future of their games.

The lessons learned from the launch of Splitgate 2, which released in June 2025 but received mixed and critical reviews, have been crucial to Empulse’s evolution. 1047 Games has recognized that it is important to listen to what players are asking for rather than simply following trends, helping them develop a more focused approach for Empulse.
